Last year I went on a trip with my parents to Broken Hill. They wanted to show me all the art galleries and also let me in on some family history. Aside from that, sleeping in a caravan with my parents for a week was worth it just for this one memory. It’s where my great-grandmother and grandmother lived:

The Happy Swap Package Family

April 27th, 2005 by Crumpet

Here they are all together for a photo before they head off to New Zealand tomorrow…

Money Maker Shaker swap package

I ended up using the gorgeous Katia Nordic wool to make a hat for my swap-partner instead of myself, but I’m definitely going to make another. I made up the pattern, but next time will make it a little longer before I start the crown decreases.

Score 1 Right Brain

April 27th, 2005 by Crumpet

Left Brain: OK, we were supposed to send off the swap items yesterday, but we really should add another thing. Let’s make an easy bag.
Right Brain: Ooh! I know! Let’s use lots of different fabrics and make it really cute!
Left Brain: Well, we don’t have much time, but I guess that would be okay.
Right Brain: Let’s make it one of those really cute bags with all rounded edges and one big long gusset sewed all the way around to the top! And make the hole at the top curved too! Curves are preeetttttty…

Left Brain: Why do you hate me Crumpet?
Sewing Machine: Why do you hate me Crumpet?
Right Brain: Ooh, but look at it’s big smile! It’s so cute and happy!

Hatty Hatty Joy Joy

April 25th, 2005 by Crumpet

There’s been a little competition on a certain musicians fan-site this week to design a CD cover for her first live EP. Obviously I entered, and I made this little hat to feature in my entry. Actually, I bought the hat from an op shop, pulled off the skanky ribbon, and knitted up the band and flowers from my remaining Noro ‘Kureyon’. I need some more of that yarn. It’s like a drug, and they price it like one too…

Happy Happy Joy Joy!

April 24th, 2005 by Crumpet

Several years ago, there was a website called mp3.com where anybody could upload their music for anyone to listen to freely. I listened to The Happies songs over and over again. Then mp3.com died, and I couldn’t find The Happies beautiful music anymore.

I was sad.

Then today I stumbled across www.thehappies.net, where their whole album is available for free download.

Now I am very, very happy. :)

What kind of yarn am I?

April 23rd, 2005 by Crumpet

You are Mohair

You are Mohair.
You are a warm and fuzzy type who works well with others, doing your share without being too weighty. You can be stubborn and absolutely refuse to change your position once it is set, but that’s okay since you are good at covering up your mistakes.

Too damn true. :D

Katia and Tori come out to play.

April 20th, 2005 by Crumpet

Pasta scarves pose with ultra-glam Katia Nordic.

So, today was payday, and I celebrated by caving to the delicious Katia ‘Nordic’. I’ve been walking through the yarn smorgasbord at Large Chain Craft Shop and stroking it lovingly for some time now, and today decided that her beautiful blueness will become my new hat.

In other news, I made the two pictured scarves in the last couple of days, knit mostly with some Katia ‘Niebla’ I bought on sale for $1 per ball last year (if only the ‘Nordic’ didn’t cost 16 times that much!) They’re based on a Craftster post I read, and are delightfully spring-like. The one on the right is called Rusty Springfield, and still needs some long coppery tassles — it will be sent off as part of a swap package. The one on the left is named Cornflake Swirl because it reminds me of Tori Amos’ hair. Which I will see in all it’s IRL glory on the 12th of May at Hamer Hall — woot! Anyway, this scarf is all finished, and will go into the shop sometime soon. But not tomorrow morning, because I have to start work at 8:30am, and I have to get up and make green tomato relish before I leave at 7:30am…
