Alternatives to drinking!

May 28th, 2005 by Crumpet

So, the Queensland Government made up this list of alternatives to getting sloshed.

So, they say “Spend Sunday in an art gallery”. Apparently you can’t substitute “Friday Night” for “Sunday”, because I went to Caroline’s show at Fresh Gallery last night and I’m fairly certain that when I left the gallery, I was drunk. But who knows, maybe if I learn to play Dungeons and Dragons, I’ll be cured…

Don’t read this if you’re Jadey McShadey…

May 19th, 2005 by Crumpet

You have been warned. The penalty for looking before you receive your Joss Whedon Round 2 swap package will be a …harsh, harsh penalty. I promise. The rest of you, read on.

“Design” my arse…

May 15th, 2005 by Crumpet

Ah, joy. Some loser hack decided to buy a pair of undies, print someone else’s photography of Anthony Callea onto iron-on transfer paper, iron this onto said undies, make Anthony sign them, and they have the gall to call this “design”.

“These briefs were designed, strictly for Anthony to sign them.”

Then someone else paid $86 for them??? What is wrong with people???

I’m a Vest Dressed Girl!

May 14th, 2005 by Crumpet

It’s done! It’s done!

What started with this pattern found in my mother’s cupboard after it went into hiding during the 80s…

Vest Dressed Girl pattern book

is now this…

Vest Dressed Girl done

I started it back in February when I was living in the Northern Territory for a few weeks. I bought the 13 balls of Patons Totem the pattern asks for on sale from the only place in Darwin that sells yarn. And I used 7.25 balls total in making the vest. What’s up with that 70s era Patons? Was it a ploy to make people buy more of your yarn…?

Anyway, I finished the front and part of the back in a couple of weeks, then put it down until a couple of weeks ago. Now I can cross one more thing off enormous list of projects!

Here’s another pic especially for Mr Crumpet, who insists on having me smile in photos even though he rarely does so himself…

Feeling woolly.

May 6th, 2005 by Crumpet

You know how you wake up in the morning sometimes and your head feels all woolly? Well that happened to me this morning. So I blew my nose. And wool came out.

Either that, or my white blood cells have decided that it’s more fashionable to be turquoise and fuzzy, just like the Katia ‘Nordic’ I wound into a ball last night.

Turquoise Nordic ball

I also wound another skein of wool into a ball last night. All 410 metres of it, without a single join. It’s JJs handpainted 8-ply wool, in the same shade (Fireball) that I made my mohair Spiderweb Capelet from. It’s amazing how different they look — the wool makes it look far brighter, and it’s also a more orange batch. When I knit up a test swatch, I’ll post it with the mohair swatch so you can see the difference. Anyway, here’s the ball on it’s lonesome:

Fireball 8-ply ball alone

And here it is dwarfing a normal-sized ball in yarn of the same weight:

David and Goliath Fireball yarn

I don’t know what I’m going to do with it yet — I’m trying not to think about it until I finish my Vest Dressed Girl number… so close!

Fun with Funds!

May 4th, 2005 by Crumpet

It’s a momentous occasion. I have just officially paid back Mr Crumpet for our car! Woot.

See, last August we moved house. I’d just sold a lot of paintings in my first exhibition, and we were looking pretty good financially. Then, on our first night in said new house, we parked our car on the street out the front because we were too tired to put it under the carport in the backyard. Apparently, we were also too tired to hear the shitheads out the front breaking into our car and bashing it to pieces…

It was an insurance write-off, and we had to buy a new car. We ended up buying a much nicer car, but the problem with nicer cars is that they cost a lot more. So pretty much all my money apart from rent, bills, food and the occasional ball of yarn has been going to Mr Crumpet since September. But no more! I am free…!

I also put some more money into my ING savings account this morning, bringing it to a grand total of $465.54. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but now that I’ve paid off the car, I can start being ruthless with the debt on my credit card, then I can start saving even more money. And we’ll eventually be able to buy a house… yay!
