I started this back in the springtime, so that I’d have a summer top. And I finally picked it back up and finished the seaming. In autumn. Just in time for winter. Luckily the printmaking studios are always ludicrously hot, and that it’s the kind of top you really have to layer over something else, so I can still wear it.
It’s ‘Accidentally on Purpose’ from Stitch’n'Bitch Nation, knit with the Heirloom 8-ply cotton I bought on sale sometime last year, when I was still in the Northern Territory.

I’m trying to get all my unfinished projects done. Partially because I feel bad about them sitting there being useless, and partially because I can’t afford to buy yarn. I did buy some sock yarn a couple of weeks ago though — I needed socks and figured I may as well spend sock money on sock yarn. I was also frightened into buying two balls of Patons Bluebell in red yesterday, after seeing my sister-in-law at Easter and realising she’s not just a little bit pregnant anymore.
Speaking of babies and the Northern Territory, I found out a couple of weeks ago that one of my students just had a baby! To celebrate, Emily Jane models a little number I like to call ‘pants’.

I normally knit for babies, but not when they live in the Northern Territory. Hopefully they’ll fit, considering I came up with the pattern myself based on the measurements of my childhood doll…
It’s late. I just deleted my entire post by accidentally closing the wrong tab in Safari. So I won’t go into all the details again yet. Just pictures. Don’t click “more” if yr Frangipani from Craftster, m’kay…
(more…)
I finally got a chance to sit down and record the second episode of my Freak Pods podcast last night. I think I’m getting better at it now — it didn’t take me an entire day to record, edit and mix this time! Enjoy. And give me comments.

I humbly present my entry for week #1 of the Whiplash contest, Woman with badge press.

The theme for this round is “everyday creativity”. As a printmaking student, art is what I do everyday, and lately I’ve been studying Picasso. This is based on his painting Man with clarinet — I wanted to further remove this into something that is ‘everyday’ for me. Making badges.
Thanks Giz for the Whiplash link.

I learned to knit from the book Stitch’n'Bitch, and ever since I bought it, I wanted to make the Sparkle Hat. I was in love with the colour of the yarn. The problem was that the Lamb’s Pride Bulky in Limeaid wasn’t available in Australia back then, and I couldn’t find a substitute I was happy with. Several months ago, when buying my yarn for the Knitting Olympics, my problem was solved.
Due to excessive brokeness recently, I haven’t been able to buy yarn. It’s also been getting very cold, so it was time to pull the Lamb’s Pride out of hibernation. The next problem was that I don’t have the book anymore. I gave it to my sister with the intention of buying the hardcover version for myself. I also decided I didn’t really want the paillettes used in the original (even though I had some), and that I wanted to use some beads I had instead. So I did some math, and winged this pattern yesterday. I love it.
Instead of giving in and buying many, many books, I settled with making an Amazon wishlist…
