Why do I have so many friends named Alex?
Late last year I used up an entire 100 gram ball of Four Seasons Hot Socks yarn on a pair of socks for my friend Alex Carroll, who has 29cm long feet and finished his masters in printmaking at RMIT in December. Alex saw me setting up my knitted teacups for assessment… and mentioned that he might like a pair of socks, because he was about to move to freezing cold China. I tried not to laugh.
The next day, I got over my idea of taking a knitting break after the months of teacup knitting, as you do, and decided that knitting Alex some socks wasn’t a bad idea. So we made a deal. He got the socks, and I got this unique-state etching, Self Portrait Delineated.

Crump, I really, really love this kind of art. I love very raw, scratchy, abstract stuff. This reminds me of the cover of Peter Gabriel’s Passion, which I also love. Julian Grater, according to Wikipedia, is the artist’s name. Anyway, I love it.
