It’s been a busy couple of weeks for me. School went back at the start of March, so for the last fortnight I’ve been caught up in organising myself for class, the show and work. I haven’t had a lot of sleep. 28 opens on Wednesday, but I’m hanging all the paintings on Tuesday morning. I have to fix one up slightly, varnish them all, sort out the hanging system, make labels, make a price sheet and somehow carry the 1.7×1.4 metre painting in to the city on the train. Last week I had to propose my ideas for two projects in class, and my next proposal is Wednesday morning. It’s been fun seeing the reactions to my ideas this year compared to my first year. Last year I got a lot of concerned responses, like “that’s a lot of work, are you sure you’ll be able to get it all done?” This year, my crazier ideas are being met with enthusiasm, and the response to the couple of safer ideas has been “well, that would be a great idea for someone else, but it’s not enough for you — it’s too easy.”
That makes me feel good. And also slightly scared about what I’ve set myself up for.
