Today Mr Crumpet sent me in search of a Cyndi Lauper CD. Now, I’m not afraid to admit that I like me some Cyndi, but I didn’t want the cashier to judge me, so I thought I better search for something to give me some Indie Cred. Except then I spotted Marvin the Album by Frente! for $10. I love me some Frente!, but if there’s any album in Australia that people will automatically hate you for owning, it’s the album with Accidentally Kelly Street on it. There has never been a worse case of an awesome band destroyed by excessive radio play here than Frente!.
As my Indie Cred needed a desperate fix, I bought an album by Sigur Rós with beautiful minimalist artwork, but no apparent title (I found out when I got home that it’s called ( )), track listing or liner notes, shrink-wrapped in clear plastic with a barcode that had to be stuck on. Oh, and all the lyrics are in that marvellous made-up language, hopelandic.
Hopefully that did the trick.
Oh, and if anyone knows where I can get me some Poi Dog Pondering next payday, that would be useful.
I just checked the Australia iTunes store. They have a Best of album and Volo Volo. I’m sure there’s some Amazon seller, or you Austalian equivalent of Amazon that will ship to you. Of course I’m biased, but I suggest the first self-titled album. It’s also called Texas Hotel in some places.
My second favorite album is Natural Thing. And then Electrique Plummagram.
