Monkey Vs Tiger
July 30th, 2007 by Crumpet
Quizilla says my daemon is…
Your MONKEY DAEMON represents a nature that is admired, detail-oriented, and full of curiosity. Some people might call you self-absorbed. You like to plan ahead, and hone your various talents to perfection.
Take this quiz
But the official Golden Compass site has told me it’s a tiger on two separate occasions, because I’m “assertive, modest, competitive, sociable and inquisitive”.
What do you think?

Just added a couple of unique-state prints from last semester to my Etsy shop. And, you know, considering that I got a HD (High Distinction) for my lithography class, I really think you should buy them.

Out and about.
July 28th, 2007 by Crumpet
As much as I’d like to curl up in a corner at home right now and not move for a good long time, it’s not an option this week. I felt so awful at work today that I came home two hours early, but I’ll be back there for five hours tomorrow before heading out to Mr Crumpet’s mum’s birthday dinner.
I do have Monday off, thank goodness, but Tuesday brings classes and an appointment with my accountant. Here’s hoping I get a big tax refund this year! That would make me feel somewhat better.
Wednesday I’m at uni all day, and from 6pm I’ll be at the opening of Richard Harding’s show Scope3 at Red gallery on St Georges Road in Fitzroy, next door to Manny’s and just down the road from Tofutti Cutie heaven, Piedemonte’s supermarket. Richard is the course head for printmaking at RMIT, and also one of my lecturers.
Thursday night there’s another exhibition opening, this time at Jenny Port Gallery on Albert St in Richmond. It’s a group show of printmakers, including Peter Lancaster (my lithography lecturer last semester and last year), Julia Silvester (my Artist Books lecturer last year), Ruth Johnstone (another lecturer for part of last year), Jazmina Cininas (not one of my lecturers yet, but she does teach some classes at RMIT) and Clare Humphries (who graduated last year) amongst others.
And Friday night? What a surprise! Another exhibition opening! This one features my friend Andy Tetzlaff, who graduated from RMIT last year with his Masters. He’s showing with another MFA graduate, Kerry Buckland-Lewis, at the Area Contemporary Art Space on Brunswick St in Fitzroy.
And as shit as I feel right now, I’m really looking forward to seeing all of these shows. Any Melbournians, I’d love it if you joined me. I’ll try not to sneeze on you.

I should have guessed.

My crappy mood yesterday wasn’t just caused by general crappy goings on.
This morning I woke up with a horrid sore throat, a head that felt stuffed full of fuzzy stuff and a non-stop runny nose. The cold that’s been lurking in the wings for the past fortnight has finally arrived good and proper.
Aside from that, today brought some rather excellent things. A couple of weeks ago I found out that I was runner up in the Filmspotting photography competition, and my prize was an Amazon gift voucher. I’ve sent a couple of orders their way since then, and the package I was most interested in arrived this morning.
The Artful Universe Expanded by John D. Barrow. It’s about how art and science co-exist, and what I’ve managed to read so far seems well written, very interesting and highly useful for what I’m looking at in my artwork this semester.
The other good thing — Mr Crumpet got a new job today! A proper, full-time job with a wage and sick leave and holiday pay and friends who work for the same company! Of course, it’s well and truly on the other side of town, so we’re going to have to start with the whole house hunting thing again… perhaps we’ll find a place with a decent kitchen this time.
Tonight we’re having yummy Indian food to celebrate!

Crap.
July 26th, 2007 by Crumpet
This morning I got up at 5am to clean our house for the inspection. Neither of us has had a day off since we got back, and we didn’t have any time off to clean it before we left. I worked up until 10 minutes before I had to go, had a shower and left for work. I spent all day doing stocktake investigation, also known as one of the most boring and frustrating jobs ever. Then Mr C called to tell me that our real estate agent is as “useless as a scrotum” (although I think scrotums are rather useful, myself… I’d hate to think of what would happen without them) — she’d left a note saying we had to make another time because we weren’t home. We assumed she’d let herself in. So I worked myself into the ground for nothing, and Mr Crumpet was late to an interview because I made him help clean too.
And we didn’t win Powerball.

Film Crazy.
July 25th, 2007 by Crumpet
I may or may not make it to any of the screenings at MIFF this year. I’m broke (also, check out the Paypal donate button to the left, people…) and booked out with art exhibition openings and birthdays through August.
I do have this small pile of films from the library to get through though. We haven’t been able to watch them yet because Mr C’s glasses broke and he’s been forced to wear his prescription sunglasses all week while his regular ones get fixed. Not fun.
And because Giz asked, yep, I did get yr present, and I loves it.
