Got Nothing.

Ma Fin Est Mon Commencement

I’m in need of a little help. You see, I’ve made this little artwork about Nothing, and now I want to enter it into an art prize, but to do that, I need Something. Fifty Somethings for the entry processing fee. My bank account is currently at Less than Nothing and the entry form is due in on Friday. If even fifty people happen to read this and donate $1 AUD each before Thursday the 25th of June, I’ll be able to enter. Here’s Something to make it nice and easy (I hope. The severe amount of seemingly gibberish code in this button is making me queasy… Edit: Button Fuxxored 1st time, Button Fixxored Now!).

The Art Prize in my sights is the 2008 Blake Prize*. Exploring the Religious and Spiritual in Art, they say. My art, including this piece, is all about the Religious. Sure, it’s about how religion is wrong. But even with its Atheist and rather existential slant, it’s still about The Religiosity.

The Unguarded Moment

I have to admit, the $20000 prize money is only part of why I so desperately want to enter. The childish glee of entering a piece about atheism is the icing on the cake.

*Thanks to Michelle for posting about this prize on the Australian Art Forum boards.

Braaaiins….

Braaaains!

Got my Zombie Shuffle on today, and also celebrated World Wide Knit in Public Day! I was running a bit late and the Mister didn’t want to join in, so I missed the first part of the shuffle and had no decent camera on hand.

Brains!

Jumped in a tram along Swanston St — nobody wanted to sit next to me! Got off at Flinders St and joined the shuffle along Southbank, then met up with m1k3y, Mia and co.

Braains!

Stopped off at Dymocks to buy a book for me and a Filmspot for Mr C — the clerk loved helping me :) — then caught the tram home.

Taken on my Shuffle home.

Fun times! Whaddaya reckon Damo? Next Patons pattern book cover or what???!? ;)

Braaaaains!

web on stone

As I was printing this image from my litho stone today, I realised it is Friday the 13th. Rather fitting. :)

On a similar note, who can I tag along with tomorrow in the Zombie Lurch? I don’t think Mr C will be dressing up and joining in, but I don’t want to let him spoil my fun!

Essay Writing Aftermath

Handed in my second assessment piece for the semester today. A 1500 word essay for art history and theory. Well, third assessment piece if you count the other 1500 word essay that was due mid semester. That there above is the aftermath. I like the essay, but don’t know how well I’ll go — from all accounts, this lecturer seems to be a pretty hard marker, and 1500 words isn’t really a lot to get right into an essay. Actually, I wrote 1705 words. Don’t tell. And it still felt too short.

I also discovered that The Joss really does like his yarny references. :)

Whedon likes his yarny references

And again on the next page…

And another.

Afterwards, I used the last of my pre-payday cash to buy an extremely healthy (and late) lunch consisting of a deep fried vegetarian spring roll, a custard donut and a bottle of Coke, then found six weaving books in the library. And when I got home, I finally watched Serenity again. Damn fine film that. Gets better every time.

Spoon

I must admit, it hasn’t all been doom and gloom around here of late. The past few weeks have brought several simple pleasures (including the curry and film with Giz and Kym!) We went to Mr C’s mum’s place for dinner a week or so back, and I got several presents. First, my copy of Vegan With A Vengeance, ordered way back in February for my birthday, had finally arrived. I love it, and will definitely be ordering Veganomicon and Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World sometime in the near future. And it turns out that helping out with the dishes after dinner can be beneficial — when I started going on and on again about how much I loved a particular tablespoon, Judy finally just handed it over. I really wasn’t intending that to be the case, but we all know how much of a sucker I am for interesting cutlery — how could I refuse it!?!

Vert

We also came into a free juicer recently. A few years ago, we went in on a gift for someone of a really cool juicer — the kind that you can shove whole pieces of fruit into without the need to chop everything up. In fact, as I worked in the kitchen/electrical department of my current workplace back then, I actually handpicked the juicer and scored some extra freebies with it. But the person the juicer was for can’t use it anymore, so it was handed on to us. Yay! We currently have nowhere really to put it in our craphole of a kitchen, so it’s sitting on top of the dryer, but the juice is yummy. :)

In other news, one of the things I was so upset and angry about last week is getting sorted out. I haven’t been able to print for a couple of weeks due to some medical stuff, and was trying to get a two week extension on my printmaking work. I’ve been keeping my department head in the loop, so he knows what’s going on, and was actually the one to suggest that I apply for an extra extension on top of the week that he could give me. But the paperwork fuckers in the Special Consideration department decided that the medical situation that kept me from lifting/moving/operating heavy machinery for two weeks wasn’t good enough to grant me an extension. Go figure. I was furious. Turns out my department head was also furious when he got his email, and he’s going to give me the extension anyway. If he wasn’t my lecturer, almost 20 years my senior and terrifically gay, I’d be tempted to propose.

Anyway, now I have to go and finish writing (well, start writing, but I will need to finish it at some point soon) my essay on Joss Whedon. Yay for Fine Art degrees!

In regards to Alex’s comment from yesterday’s post — it’s not a pile or a tower. It’s defying the laws of physics!

It’s true! Promise! Even though I’ve been having a crappy time otherwise, while weaving my mobius, I also learned magic. ;)
