Lot's of people have what you have.

Just quickly, I’m in this group show opening from 5-7 tonight at George Paton Gallery, Level 2 Union House, Melbourne University (City/Parkville Campus). The show is on Mon-Fri until the 13th of March.

#29/365

After a week of the wideangle lens and full body shots, I ran like a crazed schoolgirl back to my beloved macro for my 365 series. My eyes weren’t dealing well at the time with the heat, so I decided to make them my focus for the week.

#30/365

After taking the above shot outside and without flash, I decided to see what I could do with it. The following picture was a bit of an experimental accident and is one of my favourites. It feels like my skin and eyelashes are part of a landscape.

#31/365

I then started using the macro less and struggling more with my pictures. The next one is altered all to hell, and I like to picture it less as a photo of my eyes, and more as a representation of a moth.

#32/365

And then another night of taking the pictures late and struggling with low light graininess as a result.

#33/365

The next day, while waiting on news about a job interview I’d been for during the previous week, I got a call from RMIT saying that it would be a very, very good idea for me to put in an application for the Master of Fine Art program. As soon as possible. After three months waiting for news on my Honours application, this was very, very exciting. And terrifying, as the job interview I’d been for was for a full-time position. I received a call from one of my referees a few hours later, who said that she’d been contacted and was fairly certain I’d get the job.

The next day was my 10 year anniversary with Mr Crumpet. It was all going well until I found that the dogs had partially dug up Henry (…again…) and were fighting over who got to chew his jaw bones. Rather upsetting, to put it lightly. Still, I managed to get my shit together, take my application in and then go and see The Wrestler with the Mister. And this is how I felt when I got home.

Going off like a Frog who’s annoyed.

Frog

The last auction went very well (thank you to everyone who bid) and I’ve now listed my Frog etching on eBay.

Okay, Ebay have decided to be shitheads. Even though I’ve registered with the Everyday Hero Red Cross Fundraising site and am only raising small amounts of money, I haven’t jumped through enough of their charity fundraising hoops. So I’ll stick with what I’m doing on Etsy for now.

This is an etching on heavyweight BFK paper, from an edition of 14 printed in September 2006. The original artist’s proof was printed in July 2005, and exhibited later that year in the ‘Celebration’ Inaugural Art Juried Prize at Box Hill Community Arts Centre, Victoria, Australia. The image measures 19.5×12.5cm on paper that is 30.5×40cm unframed. Not only that, it was the first etching I ever made.

All proceeds from the auction of this etching will be added to the total on my Everyday Hero page for the Australian Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009. The death toll from the fires is now over 180 with more expected.

Bushfire Fundraising

Phoenix lithograph.

I’ve listed this lithograph on eBay tonight as a three-day auction — all funds raised will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal 2009. On Saturday we recorded our hottest day ever here, and bushfires ripped through the state (with some arson suspected, which I just cannot comprehend). To date, around 135 people have lost their lives, more are being treated for burns and over 750 homes have been lost. Entire towns have been burned to the ground. Please, go and bid lots and lots and lots and lots of money.

Edited to add: I’ll also be donating half the price of all items sold from my Etsy store until further notice. I don’t have a lot of cash to donate myself, so feel this is a good way for me to do something to help. I’ll likely put some other work up for auction as well.

Edited again to add: Just registered with the Red Cross online fundraising thingy to help my fundraising efforts. Check out my online fundraising page here.

Melbpocalypse

#22/365

Last week we loaned the telephoto lens to Steve, and got his wideangle for a few days in return. So while he was off taking pictures of blue-balled monkeys, I thought I’d make the most of the wideangle by setting “get your whole body in the frame” as my 365 theme for the week. No, really, if you look closely at that first picture, you can see that it’s me rolling across our super-wide king-sized bed that looks like a double because of the tricksy things that wideangles do.

#23/365

I find composing for this sort of lens incredibly difficult. And, of course, it’s even more difficult when you’re not actually able to look through the viewfinder. But I enjoyed the challenge.

What I didn’t enjoy was that this became heatwave week. It was horrible. Between 40 and 44º Celsius for the rest of the week. 38º inside our insulation and aircon free house. And it didn’t cool down at night. Not the most sensible week to be taking full body shots, as I didn’t always have the energy or resolve to put clothes on… (more…)
