I need help.
Around four years ago I started dismantling our old washing machine with the intent of making the drum into a coffee table. It’s been sitting in the backyard ever since, because I reached a point where I physically couldn’t remove any more of the casing.
Do you know how to take apart a front-loader washing machine?
Do you have tools that I could borrow?
Do you know people with tools I could borrow?
We’ve been on a bit of a cleanliness/house-proud kick here lately, and I’d really love to get this done. Google is offering me nothing but instructions on how to fix washing machines. It’s not helpful.
For more views, see The Washing Machine Project I’ve set up on Flickr.

U is for Unavailable
November 10th, 2007 by Crumpet
I’m getting heartily sick of not having a camera bag, so tonight I started researching the handmade options. A few weeks ago I was looking at getting one of the Crumpler bags, but they’re expensive, and they don’t make exactly what I want. I can’t find much handmade, and I’m not completely sold on the few that I can find.
So… I’m going to have to make my own.
I want something that is hardwearing, looks interesting (I’ll probably end up printing my own fabric), is waterproof, has good padding and has room for a spare lens, a few little accessories and the battery grip. If this works out, I might make a bigger version to hold all our gear. I’m going to need to borrow my friend’s overlocker, and I might think of acquiring a heavier duty sewing machine (I’ve wanted one for a while — I tend to push my current one a little too far, and sometimes it struggles).
Yay for summer projects!

Having fun with Steve’s (yes, definitely Steve’s) wide-angle lens, which we’ve borrowed for the trip.

Off with his head!
April 15th, 2007 by Crumpet
I found a little present on my desk just after I finished taking down my show. I’d loaned an old assignment to a friend so she could see how to structure an essay, and as thanks she left this little Mad Hatter statue…
How cute is that!?!
So I have all the paintings from 28 back at home now. I didn’t sell any during the show, but I’ll be putting a bunch up on Etsy as soon as I can photograph them properly, and eventually on this site as well when I get around to redesigning all the other areas of the site.
And you know what the best thing about my Mad Hatter is…?

28 reminder
April 9th, 2007 by Crumpet
My show is about to hit it’s 28th and final day. I take it down this Wednesday morning, so if you’re in Melbourne, make sure you get along to the Lounge to see it.

Argh.
March 14th, 2007 by Crumpet
Got a message on my phone this morning, and had to go down to the Lounge during lunch — apparently the manager of the place doesn’t like the way I’ve hung my work. Some of it is (very obviously) deliberately crooked, and they just don’t get it. I’ve also hung some stuff where I thought I could, but was apparently not supposed to. It will all be how I want it tonight, but tomorrow morning I have to go back in and change it all.
Also, they think my prices are too high, but they really have no say there, as I deal with any sales and they don’t take any commission. But that didn’t stop them commenting about it.
As if I wasn’t already stressed enough. I wish someone had said something yesterday…

Sneak peak.
March 13th, 2007 by Crumpet
Just a quick post because I’m exhausted, and I still need to cook dinner.
Vetti helped me hang the show today. I had to carry the big mofo in on the train, while Mr C and Vetti drove the rest of the paintings in. It took about three hours longer than I hoped, but I’m really happy with how it’s looking. Here’s a little preview.
Remember, the opening is tomorrow night — Wednesday the 14th of March — from 6pm at the Lounge, 243 Swanston St Melbourne. Everyone who reads the blog is invited, of course. The show runs until the 11th of April, so you have plenty of time to see it if you can’t get in tomorrow.
I also have to present the current state of my first project for “Printmaking: Chance and Order” tomorrow morning. I decided it would be best to set it up tonight — I’m really, really, really tired, and I didn’t want to run the risk of screwing up by sleeping in. So, here’s my research pinned to the wall. I’ll add a few more photocopies tomorrow, and show a similarly themed piece that I did last year. Exciting stuff, I reckon.
Must. Go. Eat. Sleep. Now.
