Celebrations!

March 19th, 2008 by Crumpet

It’s been a busy weekend…

First, Kris had a birthday — Happy Birthday Kris, from me and the Hardman. He hopes you had fun blowing out candles!

Hardman

The Hardman’s dad turned… eight — Happy Birthday Giz!

I am eight!

Zefrank had an anniversary… (I miss The Show!)

Who likes the little little duckies in the pond?

And I celebrated my ancestry…

Being green.

A fruitful trip.

We stopped at a farm on the side of the road just outside Mount Donna Buang yesterday, and I bought a kilo of strawberries for $6 and the same of apricots for $3.50. I’ve been eating the apricots by themselves, but decided to be a bit more adventurous with the berries. :)

The little voice in my head.

November 6th, 2007 by Crumpet

Wax Lion

Last night I made the most delicious Banana Curry ever. Now, Banana Curry is already one of the most delicious things ever, but I made it better. Normally you sauté two onions with some red curry paste, the chop up four bananas, a 500g block of dried tofu (not actually dried, but much firmer than regular tofu) and throw them into the pan with some frozen peas or beans. After about ten minutes you turn off the heat and add the juice of a lime and a cup or so of coconut milk, then serve it garnished with chopped basil.

Right at that last stage, I spied the mango in our fruit bowl. Part of my brain decided it would be a good idea to sacrifice my first mango of the season to the banana curry. The other part of my brain cried at this idea. I compromised and added half, before eating the rest as quickly as I possibly could.

The first part of my brain is a genius.

Later, lying in bed, I said, “I should listen to the little voice in my head more often.”

A minute later, Mr Crumpet replied with, “What? Is that some new podcast you’ve been listening to?”

What do you call this, love?

What do you call this, love?

(I made this for dinner last night after finding a can of vegetarian Sanitarium stuff called “rediburger” at the IGA supermarket that’s just opened up a block from our house, right where our old video store used to be. I couldn’t resist blogging with this title. ;) )

It’s just that easy.

May 9th, 2007 by Crumpet

Alex made a post yesterday about wanting to get a new car, and it spurred me on to do what I don’t normally do. Unfortunately his blog ate my comment about the environmental benefits of becoming vegetarian, so I’m reposting the links here.

I shamelessly ripped these off from Andrew G’s blog entry about the same thing.

Vegetarian is the new Prius
Fighting global warming by going vegetarian
Diet, energy and global warming study

Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that people are concerned about the environmental impact of their cars, but the single best thing you can do to help the environment is stop consuming animal products. And if you don’t think you can do that, then please, eat less meat and try to source it from local, organic farms.
