HAT - That Chocolate's Gone Straight To Your Ribs

Materials:

MC: 8 ply wool yarn (DK weight) in chocolate brown — 75g (I used about 3/4 of a 100g ball from Yarn Barn)

CC: 8 ply / DK weight yarn in a contrasting colour (you will only use a fraction of this)

1 set 4mm DPNs

1 40cm 4mm circular needle

Stitch marker

Yarn needle

Gauge:

20st=10cm in StSt when knit in round

Pattern notes:

Suits average sized adult head (The model's head is 60cm around)

Directions:

CO 100 sts on circular needle in MC. PM at beg of round.

(K4, P2, K2, P2) around.

Continue in pattern for 5 more rounds.

Switch to CC, continue in pattern for 3 rounds. (When changing colours, carry the colour you are not using loosely behind the work, twisting it with the colour you are using every second round.)

Switch to MC, continue in pattern for 3 rounds.

Switch to CC, continue in pattern for 6 rounds, then cut CC leaving a 15cm tail to weave in later.

Switch to MC and continue in pattern for approximately 20cm (you can end a few cm earlier if you want a shorter hat.)

Next round (knit onto DPNs — 3 pattern repeats on 1st needle, 4 on 2nd, 3 on 3rd) — (K2tog, K2, P2, K2, P2) around

Next round — (K3, P2, K2, P2) around

Next round — (K1, K2tog, P2, K2, P2) around

Next round — (K2, P2, K2, P2) around

Next round — (K2, P2tog, K2, P2tog) around

Next round — (K2, P1, K2, P1) around

Next round — (K2tog, P1, K2tog, P1) around

Next round — (K1, P1, K1, P1) around

Next round — K2tog around

Next round — knit

Next round — K2tog around

Cut yarn leaving a 15cm tail. Thread tail through yarn needle, slip remaining stitches onto it, then pull tightly. Weave in ends.
